Hermes Agent

Use an OpenAI-compatible endpoint with user-level configuration.

Before you connect

  • Install and launch the tool.
  • Create an API key and save the plaintext value shown once.
  • Choose a model ID whose protocol and capability match the tool.

Minimal configuration

Store the key in ~/.hermes/.env and the provider/default model in ~/.hermes/config.yaml.

  • When configuration already exists, keep its YAML hierarchy and replace the relevant values only.

Verify the connection

  1. Save both files and restart Hermes Agent.
  2. Send a minimal prompt with a known available model.

Limitations and common issues

  • If YAML fields differ, follow the structure generated by the installed version.
  • For 401 errors, confirm the process loaded ~/.hermes/.env.
